Two chairs by Oliver Orthuber

A work of art was specifically designed for the 2chairs artspace. A neutral wooden chair in white is placed next to a shoddily assembled, multi-coloured object reminiscent of a chair.
The white chair represents labour in the form of manual work, while the shoddily assembled object symbolises work in the field of art. A wooden box is installed at head height on the white chair so that the head of the sitting person is inside the box, where is a 1-minute loop video representing the mundanity of everyday life. While it is possible to sit on the chair of manual labour, visual perception is limited by a loop video, which causes the feeling of being trapped in activities solely to make a living. On the other hand, sitting on a colourful chair and embodying complete freedom is difficult, its structure is only vaguely reminiscent of a chair and does not fulfil the function.
